Skaggs brings many assets to the table for FCWO
Lyndal Skaggs is humble and sincere, but a wealth of knowledge in agriculture, IT and the corporate world
Lyndal Skaggs of Lamont, Okla. is an incredible asset to the Farm Credit of Western Oklahoma Board of Directors. When Lyndal’s tenure as a board member for Farm Credit of Enid began in 1987, he was engaged in farming and ranching full-time in partnership with his father. As challenges arose, Lyndal remained engaged in production agriculture, but began working at the Conoco Refinery. He had a successful career there and experienced a merger in 2002 with Conoco and Phillips and at that time he moved into an IT position where he provided software support and training. In 2018 he retired as a Sr. Support Analyst. As you can see, Lyndal brings many assets to the table for FCWO because of his experience in the corporate world of Conoco Phillips and expertise in IT.
Today, Lyndal’s position on the FCWO board is an appointed position, which means he is no longer a borrower. He was able to pay off his loan years ago, but his expertise to the BOD was so respected that he was appointed to fill a position vacancy. Following retirement in 2018, Lyndal and his wife rented out their farm ground to their son, Ryan, and kept the pasture where they run a small cow/calf herd. Lyndal says, “In addition to caring for my cowherd, I spend a lot of my time helping my son with farming. And the transition has been good for me. I don’t miss the stress of being the main decision maker, but am always available to provide insight and man-power.”
Lyndal and his wife Maxie have 4 children and 8 grandchildren. Their oldest son, Ryan, is the one who has chosen to continue the farming operation. Ryan is a FCWO borrower mostly because of the good experience that his father had with long-term loans and great customer service.
Lyndal says he is excited for the future of FCWO. The recent merger with Enid adds capital which makes the association stronger, more efficient, and provides added opportunities for young and new farmers. According to Lyndal, “Additionally, joining forces with Farm Credit of Western Oklahoma helps us accomplish our main goal, which is to keep rates as low as possible and maximize patronage refunds.”
